I have a busy schedule but still want to attend. What can I do?
  • Including class time, homework & speaking appointments the average student would be expected to dedicate between 3-4 hours total each week.
In what style are the classes taught?
  • My goal is for students to actually converse in the language and not just understand Spanish grammar. While I do take the time to teach clear and concise grammar principles combined with vocab, the end goal is always to use what is learned in class to communicate. The beginning of class usually consists of the introduction of a new principle and after everyone has asked questions assuring that they understand, we start speaking with that principle with classmates in small groups. While a textbook is used in all classes, its use is supplemental. In most language classes it is the opposite and the book is designed to be the primary teacher and through it you are introduced to new principles. I disagree with this teaching method. A textbook cannot answer specific questions or adjust an explanation to your learning style in the moment like I will do in class. I should also make it very clear that I love questions! Questions are essential to learning and at no point will I be annoyed or frustrated by questions, even if I have already answered them previously. Learning a language is a very vulnerable experience and you must feel comfortable and safe knowing that you can ask questions at anytime. In addition to speaking Spanish in class with your peers you will also be assigned speaking appointments with your classmates outside of class at a time that works best for you. For each speaking appointment you will be provided prompts to guide your conversations. None of these assignments are mandatory and you are simply invited to do what you can with your schedule.
What is the average age of students?
  • The average age is around 60 years depending on the section. The ages of our students range from 32 to 83. These classes are designed for individuals above the age of 30 with specific teaching methods implemented to help you retain what you learn into your long-term memory.
How much is tuition?
  • The cost for attendance is $440 per semester. If necessary your tuition can be paid in installments.
Is there a textbook?
  • Yes and it can be purchased for around $30. This same textbook will be used for all the beginning, intermediate and advanced classes. In other words, this will be the only textbook that you will need to purchase for all the classes.
