Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:00 a.m. MT
Term: 12 weeks (1 hour per session)
Compensation: $2,500 per semester
Role overview
SCA Learning LLC seeks an instructor to lead an adult-focused, online Spanish conversation course. This role is explicitly andragogical—built around adults’ goals, prior experience, and immediate real-world use. You will design a new curriculum (not a recycle of prior courses) organized around a single cultural theme for the full semester (e.g., food, travel, celebrations, regional traditions). Our Executive Director will provide guidance before you begin curriculum design.
Instructional model (non-lecture, activity-centric)
-Prioritize learner practice: target 75–85% student talk time every class.
-Use tasks, role-plays, problem-solving scenarios, and small-group work (breakout rooms) as the core of instruction.
-Provide real-time corrective feedback (recasts, prompts, quick micro-drills) while keeping fluency flowing.
-Keep explanations brief and purpose-driven; avoid lecture-style delivery.
-Make frequent micro-check-ins to adapt content to adult learners’ needs.
Responsibilities
Lead highly interactive sessions twice weekly via Zoom.
Create original lesson materials tailored to adult learners using an andragogical approach (choice, relevance, autonomy, immediate application).
Select one Spanish-language novel aligned to your theme, at an intermediate-high (approx. CEFR B1–B2) reading level, comparable in accessibility to Mi abuela la loca. State the estimated level in your proposal.
No grading of papers, quizzes, or homework is expected.
Qualifications
-Master’s degree or higher (required).
-University-level teaching experience (required).
-Native or near-native Spanish; strong command of English.
- Above-average Zoom competency (breakout rooms, screen share, chat moderation, polls, recordings, annotation/whiteboard, and basic troubleshooting).
-Demonstrated ability to design adult-oriented, activity-based curricula and adjust materials on the fly.
How to apply
Send your CV and a 150–250 word proposal that includes:
-your chosen cultural theme and why it serves adult learners;
-the novel you propose (with its approximate CEFR level or equivalent) and how it supports conversation;
-two example in-class tasks for weeks 1–2 that ensure 75–85% student talk time;
-how you will deliver ongoing, real-time corrective feedback without disrupting fluency.
